The Sport & Physical Activity Service at the University is responsible for the University’s sports facilities and development programmes. The University’s Sport & Physical Activity staff team comprises of some 100 people committed to delivering the highest levels of service to our customers.

The Sport and Physical Activity (SPA) website at the University of Leeds was beginning to look a bit tired, had become rather bloated, was difficult to navigate and even harder to update. It was time for a redesign.

We were to work closely with the digital marketing team to come up with a new visual design, a much more robust platform from which to build and further develop the site in the coming months and years.

The old website had been built on an .asp platform and although it had a comprehensive CMS, it lacked flexibility when it came to staff updating and developing the site further. Following detailed discussion with the team at Leeds it was agreed that we would develop the new site in WordPress.

We underwent a lengthy process of rationalising the content, streamlining the navigation and improving the visitor journey. We designed a look and feel that would both remain on brand and would bring the design up to date, user testing and various modifications.

The end result is a site that is easy to navigate, it retains a huge amount if information, but in a way that easily accessible. It looks modern and uses images to great effect. It is simple for the digital marketing and Sport teams to update and through training and support they have also been able to develop a new section themselves.

The site is fully responsive and works equally well across all platforms – desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile.

SEO: We have built the site to be search-engine friendly and fully optimised it at launch. We continue to monitor the site’s performance in the search engine results and carry out changes as required.

Support & Training: We work closely with the Univerity’s digital marketing team to ensure the functionality and performance of the site is at it’s best. Regular meetings, training sessions and consultation are carried out to help and support the website’s further development, and help them in their digital marketing efforts.
